From the day Brittany and Rosie met it was magic. This team was introduced to each other on May 18, 2003, at the Kokomo Kennel Club Show. Rosie was owned by Michelle Collette of TaliHo Kennels and was seeking assistance to take her Winner’s Dog and Winner’s Bitch into the ring for Best of Breed. Brittany was identified as a Junior Hander and being that Michelle supports the Junior Handler Program, asked Brittany to assist her showing Rose while Michelle showed her Winner’s Dog. Brittany took Rosie into the ring and won Best of Winners and Best of Opposite. Brittany and Rosie’s FIRST show, FIRST point, FIRST Best of Winners and FIRST Best of Opposite. All these FIRST’S paved the path for the tremendous success that followed. During the summer of 2003 while Brittany had commitments to keep, Michelle continued to show rose with her winning ways and in the fall of 2003 the magic between Brittany and Rosie blossomed into a dynamite team and took the show circuit by storm. From that first show, Brittany and Rosie gaited around rings big and small within a four state area to receive Rosie’s conformation Championship at 16 months of age. Rosie received her final major at the Columbus, Ohio show on November 15, 2003, and earned the title of Conformation Champion. During her quest for her Championship, the team of Brittany and Rosie won points over many Best of Breed Specials and received five back to back Best of Breeds. At the culmination of Rosie’s conformation career she was ranked 17th Australian Cattle dog by the American Kennel Club. Rosie also received three Best of Breeds as a Special.
At this time, Michelle and Brittany agreed to co-own Rosie and have Rosie reside with Brittany at her home in Pendleton, Indiana. Brittany introduced Rosie to obedience for AKC and 4H. Brittany received her Canine Good Citizen certificate on Rosie in October 2004. They are still actively working towards their Companion Dog title. In December 2005, Brittany received full ownership of Rosie and the world was theirs for the taking.
Rosie and Brittany have not only shown their teamwork in the AKC world but also in their 4H program in Indiana. For the past three years, Rosie has been competing with Brittany as well as demonstrating and helping first year 4-Hers in the correct procedures of 4-H for her county. 2005 was their first year in 4-H and Rosie competed in the second year obedience class, senior showmanship, and beginning agility class. In 2005 at their county fair, Rosie and Brittany were awarded Showmanship Grand Champion over 38 participants by an AKC Judge, and first place in their obedience class. At the State Fair level, Rosie and Brittany displayed their teamwork and placed 7th out of 100 entries in conformation.
Recently, at their county fair in July 2006, Brittany and Rosie received Reserve Grand Champion in Senior Showmanship, first place in their class in second year advanced obedience and a third placing in beginning “B” agility. At the State Fair level, Rosie received a 9th place ranking out of 90 entries in Obedience.
The future for Rosie and Brittany is just as exciting as their past. In the next two years Brittany and Rosie plan to keep advancing in the 4-H program until Brittany ages out at 18. They will also train and advance in the other performance events within AKC: agility, obedience, rally, and begin their herding experiences. Rosie and Brittany hit it off from the beginning, and continue to be a HOT ITEM!
